This adventure started in early 1949 with just a twinkle in both my Mom and Dad's eyes.   That year, my Dad started working for the Singer Sewing Machine Company.  That is also the year that I was born, so I think I was that twinkle.  In a very short time, Dad became a Store Manager.  With the exception of a short leave of absent, my Dad stayed with the Singer Sewing Machine Company until 1966.   Also, during that period of time, my first job was washing my Dad's Singer Sewing Machine Company truck.   From 1966 until mid 1968, he managed the Sewing Machine Department at World of Fabrics in Lacey, Washington.  At that time, it was the premiere fabric store for Southwest Washington and their sewing machine department was the supermarket of sewing machines for the area.  You named a brand and, with the exception of Singer,  they had it.   With the knowledge he had of the sewing machine industry, he decided it was time to stop managing for others and to have his own store.
In 1968, my Dad and Mom established A-1 Sewing Center.  Their focus was to offer their customers the very best products available at the best everyday price and to support our customers/friends investment with the very best customer service.   In 1972, I joined in the fun and sewing excitement of A-1 Sewing Center.   My wife and I became the owners in 1992.   In 2004, our daughter retired from the Washington State Patrol and joined us.  In 2005, our granddaughter started showing up for work.  Because of our reputation, we have become one of the largest and most respected store of our kind in the Pacific Northwest.   We have set the standard for customer satisfaction.
Our staff is one of the most highly trained in the Northwest.   They include International Award Winning Creative Sewists, a Martha Pullen Certified Instruction,  a Software Specialist,  and all around Sewists.  Our service person, that's me, has been to the Husqvarna Viking Factory in Sweden many times to receive training.   Every year we spend thousands of dollars to keep our instructors and service department up to date and fully trained to insure that our customers/friends can get the most from their sewing machine, embroidery machine, or serger investment.
