Embroidery Problem Solving Ideas

Thread breaks while embroidering First, check to see if the hoop is bouncing more than normal.  If it is, add a little more pressure to the presser foot.   If it seems not to move freely, try less presser foot pressure.   Second try changing the needle.   You might even try one size larger.  We usually use a size 14/90 Schmetz Gold Needle.   The third item to check is the thread.  Try changing your thread.  You might even try putting a little (very little) Tri-Flow on the thread.

The needle is gumming up That probably means that the fabric or stabilizer you are using has some kind of a glue on it that is getting on the needle.   Try coating the needle with Tri-Flow - using a Q-Tip rub the Tri-Flow on the needle.   Depending on the type of glue on the fabric/stabilizer, you might have to re-coat the needle every few feet of sewing.

Stabilizers - Do not be afraid to use stabilizers.  We recommend adding a layer of stabilizer every 3 to 4 thread color changes.

When Hooping an item for embroidery, put double-stick tape on the bottom of the inside hoop.  Line up the item, pick it up with the hoop, and it will go perfectly into the outside hoop.

To ensure your stabilizer doesn't shift during embroidery, spray it with 505 Spray and Fix and adhere it directly onto your fabric.  It won't make your needle sticky and it will dissipate with time, leaving no residue.

Needles - Use Schmetz Gold Needles (Titanium), or Schmetz Stretch Needles.    Size 75 or 90.   For a dense lace design try a microtex/sharp needle.
