Needle Sizes
Needles Sizes - The smaller the number the smaller the needle.
Examples = Size 8/60 is for your light silks and fine lingerie.
Size 10/70 is for lingerie and fine fabrics.
Size 12/80 is the most common for today's regular sewing.
Size 14/90 was the old standby. Today it is use for broad cloth,
flannel, light weight denim, suede, very light leathers,
quilting, and embroidery.
This is also the standard size for sergers.
Size 16/100 is good for your medium weight denim, corduroy
fabrics, and light leathers.
Size 18/110 is good for your heavy sewing needle like canvas,
heavy denim (12 oz + ), outdoor type fabrics and
leathers.
Needle Types
Universal Needles - This is for the majority of your sewing including jersey cottons and synthetics. The needle sizes we stock are size 8/60 to 19/120
Gold Needle - This is a Titanium Nitride coated needle that is great for machine embroidery. The coating improves needle wear and reduces needle clogging. Available in sizes 11/75 and 14/90.
Stretch Needles - Good for highly elastic synthetic knitwear. Like silk jersey, swim wear, lycra. Also good for suede fabrics. And a secret, they are also great for machine embroidery. Available in sizes 11/75 and 14/90.
Jeans Needles - Great for denim and similar type woven fabrics. Also good for artificial leather, waxed cloth and vinyl. Needles in stock are 14/90 to 18/110.
Leather Needles - This needle is for leathers and artificial leather. It is not suitable for textiles. Sizes in stock are 12/80 to 18/110.
Microtex Needle - Designed especially for the new microfiber fabrics. It is also good for some types of silk. Sizes in stock are 10/70 and 12/80.
Quilting Needles - This needle has been designed for quilting and patchwork. Sizes in stock are 11/75 and 14/90.
Stretch Needles - Designed for stretch fabrics like Interlock and Lycra. Size 90 is also great for machine embroidery. Sizes in stock are 11/75 and 14/90
Embroidery Needles - Designed especially to give the very best results when embroidering. Sizes in stock are 11/75 and 14/90.
Metallica Needles - Great for the new metallic threads. Available in size 12/80.
Ball Point - This needle is designed for tough knitted material as well foundation garments and curtain material. Sizes in stock are 10/70 and 12/80.
Top Stitching Needle - This needle has a great big eye. It is designed for using with heavier threads when top stitching. It is a good needle to use for machine embroidery. And, for those who are some what visually impaired, it is a life saver. Sizes in stock are 12/80 , 14/90, and 16/100.
Hemstitch Needle - This needle is really big (what else can I say.). It is designed to create a big hole and is used for heirloom sewing. Sizes in stock are 19/120.
Double Hemstitch Needle - It's designed like the twin needle with two needles on one shank except the right needle is a hemstitch needle and the left needle is a regular needle. It's for heirloom sewing and available in size 100.
Twin Needles - Twin needles are two needles combined on one shank. They are used for doing two rows of stitching at the same time: pin tucking, decorative stitches, and top stitching. Sizes 2.0/75 Embroidery, 2.5/80, 3.0/90, , 4.0/75 Stretch, 4.0/90, 4.0/100 Jeans, and 6.0/100. The first set of numbers are the distance between the needles. The second set of numbers are the size of the needles.
